Nawaz Sharif, the chief of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), and Maulana Fazlur Rehman, leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), charted a path of collaboration during their recent meeting, marking a significant step ahead of the upcoming general elections and beyond.

Their initial formal interaction since Nawaz’s return to Pakistan on October 21 delved into current political affairs and forthcoming elections. The leaders agreed on mutual consultation, cooperation, and potential seat adjustments for their alliance in the upcoming polls.

Amidst discussions, both leaders strongly condemned Israel’s continuous aggression against innocent Palestinians and addressed various national issues. The PML-N contingent, including former Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Senate Leader Ishaq Dar, and Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz, participated, while JUI-F representatives accompanied Fazl.

Fazl reiterated their joint intent to move forward together, emphasizing harmony, a conciliatory approach, and electoral collaboration. He highlighted the need for unity among parties, advocating for fair representation where each party holds influence.

Regarding their alliance, Fazl cryptically commented on interpretations, hinting at a forthcoming partnership shaped by their shared political history and previous collaborative efforts.

Expressing skepticism towards PTI, Fazl criticized its policies, accusing the party of divisive agendas. He emphasized the importance of focusing on national interests and steering clear of unnecessary conflicts among political entities.

When questioned about PPP’s potential inclusion, Fazl maintained a non-extremist stance, discouraging negativity in the electoral campaign and emphasizing cooperation over hostility.

Regarding diplomatic engagements, Fazl clarified the JUI-F’s position on meetings with foreign ambassadors, emphasizing the need to avoid misinterpretations of such interactions and guard against external interference in internal affairs.

In condemning Israel’s actions against Palestinians, Fazl advocated for a unified Palestine, rejecting the concept of a two-state solution and calling for global support for a singular Palestinian state.
