Under the proposed policy, individuals failing to meet their installment commitments may encounter mobile phone blocking as a consequence.

Notably, the PTA will spearhead the implementation of this measure, signifying a shift from sole reliance on mobile companies for enforcement. The process of blocking will utilize the Device Identification Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS) of the PTA.

The policy’s core focus is to widen technology access, particularly for low-income individuals, enabling them to purchase mobile phones through interest-free installment plans.

The subsequent step involves presenting the policy to the federal cabinet for approval. Upon approval, the Ministry will issue a policy directive, marking a significant advancement in ensuring equitable technology access while ensuring accountability through the innovative use of the DIRBS system.
