Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari delivered an emotional response to the Supreme Court’s recent ruling on the trial, sentence, and execution of the late Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, terming it “historic” and a crucial step towards rectifying past injustices.

In a teary-eyed statement to the media outside the Supreme Court in Islamabad, Bilawal expressed gratitude for the court’s acknowledgment that Zulfikar Ali Bhutto did not receive a fair trial, emphasizing the significance of setting the historical record straight. The ruling, announced by Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa and a nine-member bench, acknowledged the constitutional violation of due process in Bhutto’s case, which ultimately led to his unjust execution in 1979.

Bilawal emphasized the profound impact of Bhutto’s death sentence as a stain on the judiciary, eroding public confidence in the court system and perpetuating a perception of injustice. He thanked the judges, lawyers, and others involved in the case, expressing hope that the ruling would mark a turning point for Pakistan’s justice system and pave the way for a more equitable future.

The PPP chairman’s remarks underscore the significance of the Supreme Court’s decision in addressing historical grievances and restoring faith in the rule of law. As Pakistan reflects on its past missteps, Bilawal’s hopeful vision for a more just and prosperous future resonates with many who seek accountability and transparency in the country’s judicial processes.
