In a conspicuous move, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Chief Minister, Ali Amin Gandapur, declined attendance at Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s oath-taking ceremony, citing a significant reason. Gandapur, known for his staunch allegiance to Imran Khan, opted out of the event, highlighting his absence as a stance against what he perceives as electoral irregularities.

Refusing to participate in the swearing-in ceremony, Gandapur emphasized his stance as a non-holder of Form 45, a crucial document in electoral processes. He asserted that the incumbent Prime Minister was selected by returning officers, rather than through a transparent electoral process. In Gandapur’s view, attending the ceremony would have been contradictory to his principles, given the perceived lack of legitimacy in Shehbaz Sharif’s ascension to power.

His decision to abstain from the event echoes the prevailing sentiment within his party regarding alleged rigging during the February 8 polls. While Gandapur’s absence underscores the ongoing political tensions surrounding electoral integrity, President Arif Alvi, aligning with Imran Khan’s faction, administered the oath to Shehbaz Sharif, marking his second tenure as the country’s leader.

The swearing-in ceremony, held at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, witnessed the presence of notable figures from various political factions, including outgoing caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar and key governmental officials. However, Gandapur’s conspicuous absence from the gathering underscores the deep-rooted divisions and discontent within the political landscape.

The event, attended by prominent political figures and dignitaries, including Nawaz Sharif, Asif Ali Zardari, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, and other leaders, signifies a pivotal moment in Pakistan’s political arena. Yet, Gandapur’s refusal to partake serves as a poignant reminder of the persistent discord surrounding electoral transparency and political legitimacy in the country.
