In a move aimed at easing the financial burden on consumers grappling with inflation, the federal government has announced a reduction in petroleum product prices.
Effective from December 16, the price of petrol will see a noteworthy decrease of Rs. 14 per liter, settling at Rs. 267.34 per liter. Simultaneously, the price of high-speed diesel will witness a decrease of Rs. 13.50 per liter, now priced at Rs. 276.21 per liter.
Additionally, kerosene prices will be lowered by Rs. 10.14 per liter, reaching Rs. 191.02 per liter, while light diesel oil will be reduced by Rs. 11.29, priced at Rs. 164.64 per liter.

This adjustment in prices arrives against the backdrop of a significant year-on-year increase of 43 percent in the Sensitive Price Index (SPI) for the week ending December 14, 2023. The recent surge in gas charges has notably contributed to this inflationary trend, making the slight reduction in petroleum product prices a welcomed relief for consumers.

It’s important to note that the caretaker government had maintained the price of petrol during the last fortnightly review, while high-speed diesel witnessed a Rs. 7 per liter reduction.
These revised prices are anticipated to provide some respite to individuals grappling with the impacts of rising living costs and inflation.
