Lahore High Court’s Decisive Measures: Ramifications of Recent Verdicts on Ramadan Timings and Environmental Education

5/5 - (1 vote)

In a significant ruling, the Lahore High Court has recently made two pivotal decisions that promise to have far-reaching effects on both the societal and environmental landscape of the province.

Firstly, the court has granted permission for restaurants across the province to operate from Iftar until Sehr during the holy month of Ramadan. This decision comes as a relief to businesses and residents alike, ensuring greater flexibility and convenience during this period of heightened religious observance.

Secondly, in a move aimed at promoting environmental awareness and sustainability from a young age, the court has mandated that schools incorporate practical activities related to environmental education at least once a week. This directive underscores the court’s commitment to fostering a culture of environmental consciousness among the youth.

Additionally, the court has ordered the Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) to devise a comprehensive plan for a cleanliness campaign involving school and college students. By mobilizing the younger generation in efforts to combat pollution and promote cleanliness, this initiative aims to create a more environmentally responsible citizenry.

Furthermore, the court has taken decisive action against environmental violations by suspending power connections to tyre-burning units and instructing associated staff to comply promptly. Additionally, Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) officials have been directed to cease tree-cutting activities and coordinate with the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) prior to any tree felling.

Justice Shahid Karim, in issuing a written order, has emphasized the importance of these measures in addressing pressing environmental concerns, particularly the ongoing battle against smog.

Overall, the Lahore High Court’s recent rulings underscore its proactive stance on both religious accommodations and environmental stewardship, signaling a significant step forward in the pursuit of a cleaner, more sustainable future for the province.
