In a recent development, an anti-terrorism court in Rawalpindi has granted bail to Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, the chief of the Awami Muslim League (AML), in a case related to incidents that occurred on May 9.

During the court proceedings, Sardar Abdul Raziq Khan, an advocate representing Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, argued that his client’s name was added to the First Information Report (FIR) at Waris Khan police station on October 5. However, he asserted that Sheikh Rashid had no connection to the events that transpired on May 9.

Raziq emphasized that there was a lack of evidence against Sheikh Rashid Ahmed and claimed that his inclusion in the FIR seemed to be a politically motivated attempt to victimize him.

In response, Special Judge Ijaz Asif took into account Sheikh Rashid‘s senior citizen status and granted him bail upon submission of surety bonds worth Rs50,000. The court also issued a notice to the opposing party.

Additionally, the court accepted an interim bail plea from former Member of the National Assembly, Sheikh Rashid Shafique, until November 8. Sardar Abdul Raziq Khan advocated on behalf of Sheikh Rashid Shafique during the proceedings.
