Punjab caretaker government approves Rs 2073 billion budget for 2023-24

On Monday, the Punjab caretaker government, headed by Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi, approved the Rs 2073 billion budget for the next four months of the fiscal year 2023-24. The budget includes a substantial amount of Rs 1718 billion for non-development expenditures, including salaries, pensions, and other operational costs. Rs 50 billion has been allocated to provide relief packages to the masses, Rs 208 billion to the health sector, and Rs 222 billion to education.

The agriculture sector has received a Rs 10 billion allocation, while the National Health Support Program has received Rs 1.8 billion. Rs5 billion has been allocated for the provision of Punjab textbooks, Rs7.3 billion for climate change initiatives, and Rs 351 billion for ongoing development projects across the province.

The government has also announced an allocation of funds for a 120-day period, which will be rolled out from November 1. This is to ensure that ongoing development projects stay on track and are completed as scheduled.
