PTA and HEC Unite Against Inappropriate Online Content

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and the Higher Education Commission (HEC) have united to combat the dissemination of inappropriate content on social media platforms, aiming to eliminate this societal concern.

Chairman PTA, Major General (R) Hafeezur Rehman, and Chairman HEC, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, emphasized the need to raise awareness and prevent blasphemous activities on the internet and social media during their recent meeting. Their focus extended to informing university administrations, faculties, and students, urging active participation in addressing this issue.

Major General (R) Hafeezur Rehman commended HEC’s efforts and affirmed PTA’s dedication to tackling challenges in cyberspace responsibly. PTA has actively engaged with religious scholars and collaborated with international entities such as UNICEF, TikTok, and Telenor Pakistan to address this issue.

This partnership between HEC and PTA aims to curb the spread of illicit online content and encourage constructive online engagement among young users. Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed praised PTA’s commitment to promoting safe internet use while highlighting HEC’s initiatives like ‘The Pakistan Education Research Network’ (PERN) and the establishment of smart classrooms in universities to foster responsible cyberspace usage.

Both entities pledged ongoing support for issues vital to each other’s national interests, aiming for sustained cooperation in safeguarding online environments.
