The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has informed the Supreme Court that the next general elections will take place on February 11. This news came during a hearing where several petitions were presented, demanding that elections be held within 90 days after the dissolving of the National Assembly and provincial legislatures.

During the session, the Chief Justice of Pakistan asked the ECP for a clear timeline for the elections. The ECP’s lawyer, Sajeel Swati, mentioned that the delimitation process would be completed by January 29, paving the way for the elections. He also stated that all the necessary arrangements, including defining constituencies, would be finished by this date, with the final list of constituencies being unveiled on December 5.

Swati further informed the court that the ECP had decided to hold the elections on a Sunday for the convenience of the public. As a result, they settled on February 11, which falls on the second Sunday.

During the proceedings, the Chief Justice inquired whether President Arif Alvi was involved in the decision-making process. Swati replied that they were not obliged to consult with the President. However, the Chief Justice questioned this and urged the ECP to discuss the matter with the President and report back to the court within 30 minutes.

Later, Secretary Omar Hamid Khan mentioned that the meeting with the President would take place shortly.
