Elon Musk’s xAI, the recently announced AI startup, has launched its first product, Grok. Grok directly competes with OpenAI’s ChatGPT and other generative AI-based chatbots.

Grok’s Competitive Edge:

Musk claims that Grok is “the best there is” in certain aspects. It’s outperforming GPT 3.5 in various academic tests, particularly in math and coding.

Grok benefits from real-time information access from xAI and operates on a novel engine named Grok-1.

Academic Performance:

xAI states that Grok has excelled in its compute class, surpassing models like ChatGPT-3.5 and Inflection-1 in standard machine-learning benchmarks designed to gauge math and reasoning abilities. However, it was only outperformed by models with significantly more training data and computing resources, like GPT-4.

In mathematics, Grok and Claude-2 both achieved a C grade with scores of 59% and 55%, while GPT-4 received a B grade with a score of 68% during evaluations at the 2023 Hungarian national high school finals.

A Dash of Humor and Spice:

Musk also revealed that Grok is designed to respond with humor and a touch of sarcasm. It’s open to answering unconventional and “spicy” questions that many other AI systems might reject.

Beta Stage with Rapid Improvements:

Grok is currently in its early beta stage but is continuously improving week by week. The company is actively working on implementing additional safety measures to prevent malicious usage.

Limited Availability:

As of now, Grok is available to a select number of users in the United States. It’s offered as part of the X Premium Plus subscription, priced at $16 per month.
