Trademark Battle: Threads Software vs. Meta in the UK

Threads Software Limited has given Meta a 30-day warning to stop using “Threads” in the UK because Threads Software Limited owns the trademark.

Threads Software Limited told Facebook and Instagram’s parent company about this through legal channels. If Meta doesn’t stop using the name Threads, the British company plans to take the matter to court.

Threads Software Limited got the trademark for “Threads” in 2012 for their messaging hub. This hub can save a company’s emails, tweets, and internet calls in a cloud-based database.

The British company said it turned down four offers from Meta’s legal team to buy their domain name “threads.app.”

But when Meta launched its Threads social media app to compete with Elon Musk’s platform, Threads Software Limited was removed from Facebook.

John Yardley, the Managing Director of Threads Software Limited, is worried about his company facing a big threat from one of the world’s largest tech companies.

Meta released its Threads app in July when Elon Musk limited the number of tweets users could see.

The Threads app quickly gained 100 million users in five days, partly because it works with Instagram.

By the end of July, Mark Zuckerberg admitted that over half of Threads’ users had stopped using it. However, the app has introduced new features and still has 120 million users this month.

John Yardley says it’s like a classic “David and Goliath” battle, with Meta being the giant and Threads Software Limited fighting for their name.
