Opposition Protest as National Assembly Passes Resolution for Extension of Seven Ordinances

5/5 - (1 vote)

In the National Assembly session, opposition uproar accompanied the passing of a resolution seeking extension for seven ordinances, with Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar tabling the ordinances and bills amid protests.

The bills, including The Civil Courts Amendment Bill, 2024, and the Legal Aid and Justice Authority Amendment Bill, 2024, were referred to the relevant standing committees. However, opposition leader Omar Ayub Khan criticized the lack of clarity regarding the ordinances and accused the government of attempting to “sell Pakistan.”

Despite the opposition’s objections, the resolution garnered 130 votes in favor and 63 against. The session also witnessed the swearing-in of five new female MNAs on reserved seats.
