Karachi, Pakistan – A young university student’s life was tragically cut short on Monday night in Karachi’s Korangi area. Laraib, a private university student, was shot and killed by suspected robbers while returning home from the gym.

The attack took place in Allah Wala Town, leaving residents and Laraib’s family struggling to cope with the senseless loss. According to Laraib’s father, Muhammad Hussain, his son was not only a dedicated student but also an aspiring author. He was working on a book on basic accounting, and the data for the book was reportedly saved on his phone. This, Laraib’s father believes, is why he resisted the robbery attempt, leading to the fatal shooting.

Laraib’s brother, Shahzaib, echoed his father’s grief, highlighting the constant threat of violence in the city. “Unfortunately, the law enforcement agencies have failed to stop dacoity incidents in the metropolis,” he lamented.

This incident is not isolated. In December 2022, another young student, Bilal Nasir, was shot and killed while resisting a robbery attempt, raising concerns about the safety of students and residents in Karachi.

The police investigation is ongoing, but the loss of Laraib has left a deep void in his family and community. His story serves as a stark reminder of the human cost of ongoing struggles with crime and violence.
